A New Season of Faith, Coffee & a Kid Podcast! "From Captivity to Freedom: An Interview with Tanya Kach"

As we launch this new season of Faith, Coffee and a Kid, I knew I wanted to start with something meaningful – a conversation that would remind us of all of the incredible resilience of the human spirit. That's exactly what happened when I sat down with Tanya Kach, a survivor whose story is remarkable and unbelievable.

You may have heard of Tanya's story from the Lifetime movie "The Girl Locked Upstairs: The Tanya Kach Story." At just 14 years old, Tanya was held captive by Thomas Hose, a security guard at Cornell Middle School in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, which is actually my hometown, at a school I attended. What followed was ten years of captivity that would test every ounce of strength she had, and it's also about a system and the adults who failed her.

More Than Survival

During our conversation, I was struck not just by Tanya's courage in sharing her story, but by her grace and strength in how she's chosen to move forward. It's one thing to survive something unthinkable; it's another thing entirely to find the courage to speak about it openly, to write about it, and to allow your story to be shared with the world.

Tanya's willingness to be vulnerable about her experience speaks to something deeper than just survival – it speaks to the power of reclaiming your own narrative. Her story offers something essential: proof that even in our darkest moments, we are not defined by what happens to us.

A New Season, An Important Start

I couldn't think of a better way to kick off this new season than with Tanya's story. It sets the tone for the kinds of conversations I want to have – real, honest, sometimes difficult, but always hopeful.

Whether you're familiar with Tanya's story or hearing it for the first time, I know this conversation will stay with you long after you finish listening.
